Comparison of widescreen televisions and normal televisons

This applet allows you to compare the sizes of conventional televisons and widescreen televisons. A conventional television has a height to width ratio of 3/4 whilst a widescreen TV as a ratio of 9/16. The applet can be used in used in on of two ways:

Equivalent Dimension

In this mode you can enter a dimension for width, height or diagonal size for either an normal TV or a widesceen TV. The applet will keep that dimension the same for the other type of TV and will calculate the dimensions for that type of TV based on the dimension you supplied.

Equivalent Picture

In this mode you enter the diagonal screen size for either the normal TV or the widescreen tv and the applet will calculate the size of picture you can expect for the other ratio. E.G. if you enter a screen size for a widescreen TV the applet will calculate the size of normal picture that you can expect the widescreen TV to show. If you enter the size of a normal picture then the applet will calculate the size of widescreen picture you can expect from that TV.

NOTE

Because of rounding errors in the programme, the sizes calculated may be slightly smaller than in reality
